ไทยพาณิชย์ เป็นผู้สนับสนุนหลักการจัดงานการประชุมสุดยอดผู้นำอาเซียนครั้งที่ 25 ณ กรุงเนปิดอว์ สาธารณรัฐแห่งสหภาพเมียนมาร์
ธนาคารไทยพาณิชย์ เป็นผู้สนับสนุนหลักในการจัดงานการประชุมสุดยอดผู้นำอาเซียน (ASEAN SUMMIT) ครั้งที่ 25 ซึ่งจะจัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 9-11 พฤศจิกายน 2557ณ กรุงเนปิดอว์ สาธารณรัฐแห่งสหภาพเมียนมาร์ มุ่งหวังให้เป็นเวทีในการร่วมพัฒนาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศในกลุ่มเครือข่ายภูมิภาคอาเซียน
นายกมัลกานต์ อากาวัล ที่ปรึกษาประธานกรรมการบริหารและผู้ช่วยผู้จัดการใหญ่อาวุโส สายธุรกิจต่างประเทศ ธนาคารไทยพาณิชย์ กล่าวว่า การจัดประชุมสุดยอดผู้นำอาเซียนมีความสำคัญในฐานะเป็นเวทีที่ผู้นำระดับสูงสุดของแต่ละประเทศสมาชิกมารวมตัวกันเพื่อหารือถึงปัญหาและทางออกต่างๆ เพื่อนำไปสู่หนทางแห่งการพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของภูมิภาคอาเซียน โดยในปีนี้เมียนมาร์เป็นเจ้าภาพในการจัดการประชุมครั้งนี้ขึ้น ธนาคารเห็นว่าเป็นโอกาสดีที่จะมีส่วนร่วมในงานดังกล่าวเพื่อเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในการผลักดันการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืนของภูมิภาคอาเซียนให้แข็งแกร่งเพื่อแข่งขันในเวทีโลกได้ นอกจากนี้ ยังเป็นการสนับสนุนรัฐบาลเมียนมาร์ในฐานะที่เป็นเจ้าภาพการจัดงานเป็นปีแรกอันจะเป็นโอกาสอันดีที่เมียนมาร์จะแสดงศักยภาพของตนให้กับเพื่อนบ้านอาเซียนได้ประจักษ์ทั้งทางเศรษฐกิจ สังคม การเตรียมพร้อมของประเทศในการก้าวเข้าสู่ประชาคมเศรษฐกิจอาเซียนในปลายปีหน้า”
ในเดือนพฤษภาคมที่ผ่านมาเมียนมาร์ได้เป็นเจ้าภาพการจัดการประชุมสุดยอดผู้นำอาเซียนครั้งที่ 24 ภายใต้หัวข้อ Moving Forward in Unity to A Peaceful and Prosperous Community และในการจัดประชุมสุดยอดผู้นำอาเซียนครั้งที่ 25 ในระหว่างวันที่ 9-11 พฤศจิกายน 2557 นี้ ณ กรุงเนปิดอว์ เพื่อหาข้อสรุปเพิ่มเติมเกี่ยวกับประด็นสำคัญต่างๆ ของกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียนเพื่อให้สามารถเผชิญหน้ากับความท้าทายต่างๆ ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพและเติบโตต่อไปอย่างยั่งยืน
ปัจจุบันเมียนมาร์ประสบความสำเร็จอย่างมากจากนโยบายปฏิรูปประเทศที่สามารถสร้างความมั่นใจให้แก่รัฐบาลเพื่อนบ้านและความเชื่อมั่นจากนักลงทุนทั่วโลก ด้วยปัจจัยทางด้านทรัพยากรและประชากรที่มั่งคั่งทำให้เมียนมาร์กลายเป็นตลาดที่สำคัญต่อภูมิภาค
