TCEB STEPS UP MICE VENUE STANDARD DEVELOPMENT
TO STRENGTHEN THAI MICE INDUSTRY IN GLOBAL MARKET
TCEB’s annual “MICE Standards Day” event will be held as a virtual event for the first time in 2021 when over 200 venues nationwide will be certified with Thailand MICE Venue Standard (TMVS) and ASEAN MICE Venue Standard (AMVS) More than 350 MICE operators are expected to join the event to demonstrate their commitment to both standards as a means to enhance their competitive advantage in serving MICE market in the future.
Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB, stated that TCEB will be holding “MICE Standards Day 2021” in a virtual format for the first time on 26 August to promote venues to achieve Thailand’s MICE Venue Standard and gain international recognition, accordingly. It is estimated that MICE entrepreneurs participating in the event will exceed 350.
“Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, standardisation has become a critical issue. TCEB has, thus, updated the implementation of Thailand MICE Venue Standard (TMVS) by incorporating MICE Venue Hygiene Guidelines for venues, organisers and visitors as one element. As for ASEAN MICE Venue Standard (AMVS), Thailand is the first country to implement it to ensure confidence in holding safe events in all regions across Thailand, which will heighten the international competition of Thai MICE industry.”
With such hygienic and safety focus, this year’s virtual event will be honoured by the presence of Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, who will chair the event. The highlight activity is the presentation of both TMVS and AMVS emblems to the venues meeting the standard criteria. This year 194 MICE venues will receive TMVS certification in 3 categories: 472 meeting rooms of 169 venues; 16 exhibition halls of 10 venues; and 15 special event venues. Certification of AMVS standard will be given to 25 meeting rooms and 3 exhibition venues.
To recognise and express gratitude to MICE-related bodies for their alliance’ roles in contributing to the advancement of Thai MICE industry, trophies will be delivered at the event to Business of Creative and Event Management Association (EMA), Thai Exhibition Association (TEA), Thai Hotels Association (THA), Thailand Incentive and Convention Association (TICA) and Department of Skill Development under the Ministry of Labour.
Furthermore, the event will feature workshops related to MICE standards, which will be run by distinguished speakers from MICE industry and experts in the respective fields. The first workshop will focus on “management of food waste and excess food in MICE business”, while the second will put a spotlight on “MICE venue management for Muslim clients”.
Currently, there are a total of 880 venues in Thailand earning TMVS certification, which are divided into the following categories:

“TCEB is setting sight on inspecting and assessing 155 MICE venues in Thailand in 2022 and will conduct a feasibility study of new standard certification, as well as initiate a draft of the criteria for Muslim-friendly event in order to expand the scope of MICE venue standards. Regarding AMVS, special event venue category will be expedited so that it earns ASEAN-wide recognition, which will help propel regional MICE in the new normal.” concluded Mr. Chiruit.
